Programming and Engagement

Student Affairs, Diversity and Inclusion (SADI) programming

A wide range of campus-wide programming complements the academic experience, as we believe in a comprehensive educational model that goes beyond classroom learning and interactions.

By grounding our work in Berklee’s Fundamental Values and actively embracing our campus-specific Diversity and Inclusion strategy, we aim to curate programming that prepares students for the realities of the creative industries. Our offerings aim to tackle critical issues, including:

  • Social Impact: Engaging with racial justice and gender equality
  • Well-being: Prioritizing mental health and wellness in the arts
  • Conscious Creative Leadership: Exploring accessibility and the industry's response to climate change

SADI has created a series of signature events where Berklee Valencia community members engage in meaningful and impactful opportunities that allow for social and educational interactions.

Signature Events

  • Community & Culture Outings: These group experiences provide a connection with peers over shared adventures. They actively contribute to a diverse, inclusive community, fostering a profound sense of global citizenship and deep-rooted local belonging. Some of the outings include flamenco shows, Albufera Natural Park sunset boat rides, Fallas exhibits, paellas in El Palmar, and more.
  • Speaker Series: This series brings dynamic speakers to campus to discuss salient issues across a variety of identities and experiences.
  • Cultural Observations: Celebrating global cultural observations like Black History Month, Women's Month, Pride, Lunar New Year, and others is foundational to the campus's musical, identity-driven, and professional mission. Bringing these observations into the recording studios and performance spaces acts as a powerful creative catalyst, allowing students to fuse their diverse heritages into groundbreaking, intercultural collaborations. These are often championed by student-led groups like She Knows Tech or the Black Student Union.
  • Co-curricular Yoga: To further support student well-being, we offered these classes to provide a consistent outlet for physical and mental restoration. By integrating wellness directly into the weekly campus routine, we lowered the barrier to healthy habits and fostered a community culture that prioritizes long-term balance.
  • Student Initiatives Showcase: These provide a vital stage to offer a high-visibility platform for student clubs to perform and present their semester-long projects to the broader campus community.
  • Friendsgiving Dinner: Our annual Thanksgiving dinner brings together students, faculty, and staff for a warm celebration of gratitude and belonging. We provide students with a high-quality experience at no cost to them, reinforcing a sense of family and belonging.

Student Leadership Opportunities

Our community is co-created every academic year by the student body that we welcome to our campus; therefore, we work closely with student leaders to create a vibrant community life where every single student can feel included, engaged, and supported. Student leaders help us create a sense of belonging on our campus.

Student Advisory Board

The Student Advisory Board represents and voices the needs and interests of Berklee’s Valencia campus students to the campus leadership teams, with the goal of ensuring a healthy dialogue between the student body and the institution and fostering an environment based on diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect within our community both on and off campus.

The board, formed by two students from every academic program, provides regular feedback about the student experience to campus officials. It is an essential mechanism in the Berklee Valencia community to work together and create a community where students strive to reach their full potential and flourish.

Student Clubs

Student Initiatives enrich the student experience, create a diverse community, encourage involvement, and provide opportunities for students to build valuable skills. Open to students from all academic programs, these initiatives organize programs, events and activities across campus throughout each semester.

They transform a campus from a place where you attend classes into a place where you actually belong. Here's a sampling of the ongoing initiatives created by and available to Berklee Valencia students. Student interests are always changing so is our list of initiatives:

Student clubs meet periodically over the semester, developing educational and engaging content around their topic of interest and contributing to a sense of community within our student body.

Information about how to start or join a student initiative, the process and policies that must be followed, is given at the start of each semester.

Campus Events

Campus events play a vital role in building community and celebrating diverse experiences. Students involved in the planning and execution of campus events gain hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful programs such as cultural celebrations, awareness events, and live performances. Some campus events include but are not limited to: open mics, library desk concert series, cultural celebrations and festivities, pizza and video games, and more.

Day Trips

We offer a number of day trips per semester for students so they can enjoy everything that Valencia and its surroundings have to offer.

These cultural travels are life-changing experiences, enriching and broadening the student's perspective by immersing in the local culture. Students have the opportunity to try the local cuisine, explore the natural surroundings, learn the language, and discover hidden gems of the local culture. This can include La Albufera Natural Park, catamarans in the Mediterranean Sea, the Saint Joseph caves, the Sagunto Roman Amphitheater and Castle, and more. Students return home with a newfound appreciation for the richness and diversity of our world.
