Berklee Valencia Music Production Summer Program is a project-based learning experience that allows students ages 15 and up to gain experience in recording studios and live music venues. This one-week program provides students with a hands-on introduction to the strategies used by the music producers of today's industry. Sample techniques include self-production, recording and mixing a band in the studio, show production basics, and live mixing a band on stage.

The Music Production Summer Program will run simultaneously with the BV Camp–Youth (Berklee Valencia Contemporary Arts and Music Program), and there may be potential collaboration and interaction between them.
What’s the Program Like?
Berklee Valencia's Music Production Summer Program offers students an engaging, hands-on experience in music production. Over the course of one week, participants will develop both the technical and creative skills needed to produce their own music. Whether they are interested in self-production, recording in a studio, or live sound mixing, this program provides a comprehensive introduction to all three areas. Students will learn to operate professional recording studios, mix live performances, and use cutting-edge music production technology.
Set in the vibrant cultural hub of Valencia, Spain, the program fosters collaboration among young musicians and producers from around the world. Guided by Berklee’s expert faculty, students will work in state-of-the-art facilities, including recording suites, tech labs, and live event spaces. By the end of the week, participants will have gained real-world experience in both studio and live production environments, laying the foundation for future academic or professional opportunities in music production.
Program Highlights
Music Technology Foundations
Develop essential skills for producing and recording music, covering topics such as DAW operation, signal flow, recording techniques, MIDI programming, and home studio setup.
Studio and Live Production with Evening Workshops
Gain hands-on experience through practical studio and live production sessions. Additionally, participate in optional evening workshops on topics such as Electronic Music Production, beat-making, and DJing.
Collaboration with Berklee Valencia Campus Students
Take part in recordings, jam sessions, and a final concert, collaborating with fellow students from the Berklee Valencia community.
The Berklee Valencia Experience
Berklee Valencia’s campus offers students access to world-class music production facilities designed to replicate professional environments. The Music Technology Complex includes cutting-edge resources such as two technology labs, five advanced recording studios—including Studio A with Dolby Atmos—and a renowned scoring stage, all designed by Walters-Storyk Design Group. Additional facilities include ensemble rooms, teaching studios, practice spaces, and instrument storage.
Students will also experience Valencia’s rich Mediterranean culture while collaborating with peers from around the world. This blend of expert instruction, hands-on learning, and cultural immersion provides a comprehensive introduction to music production for aspiring producers.
Program Details
What Will I Learn?
Students develop both the technical and creative skills essential for producing and self-producing music across various styles. The program covers key areas such as recording studio operation, live sound production, and the use of cutting-edge technology tools in state-of-the-art facilities. You will gain hands-on experience in different music production settings, from self-production to studio and live sound mixing.
Entrance Requirements
Students should have at least six months to one year of experience with GarageBand or any other digital audio workstation (DAW), along with a basic understanding of music and music technology tools. Required materials include a laptop with access to a digital audio workstation (DAW), software (e.g., Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Logic).
Participants must have a good command of English, as all instruction will be in English. While we do not require formal proof of English proficiency (such as TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores), students should be able to understand class materials and assignments effectively.
The Berklee Valencia Music Production Summer Program is strictly an on-campus academic program. It is not a residential program, and students are required to live independently off-campus in non-Berklee-sponsored housing. Berklee only provides supervision during the set hours of the program and does not supervise students outside of program hours. Parents/legal guardians shall ensure proper supervision and accompaniment of minors (participants under 18 years of age) enrolled in the Music Production Summer Program outside the on-campus program scheduled hours, as well as during their travels to/from Valencia. Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian OR must have signed an authorization from their parent and/or legal guardian authorizing their participation in the program without adult supervision.
Curriculum and Courses
Music Technology Foundations
The Music Technology Foundations component is designed to equip students with the essential skills needed for home music production. Key topics include audio basics, microphone usage, digital audio workstation (DAW) operation, home studio setup, MIDI production, and beat making. This section provides students with a solid foundation to produce and record music independently.
Studio and Live Production
The Studio and Live Production module focuses on developing skills for both studio and live sound environments. Students will learn about audio signal flow, microphone techniques, audio processors, DAW use, console operation, multitracking, live mixing, and speaker systems. This module aims to prepare students to effectively produce music in professional studio settings and manage live sound production.
Cocurricular Activities
Production Clinics
Production Clinics offer optional hands-on opportunities for students to support BV-CAMP Youth recordings, open mics, and final performances. These sessions allow participants to apply the concepts learned in their core production classes and gain practical experience in a collaborative environment.
Workshops
Optional Workshops occur within the regular program hours and are designed to broaden students’ understanding of various production fields and introduce new creative tools and techniques. Sessions may include topics such as DJ skills, Ableton, Logic, EDM production, mixing, songwriting, and beatmaking. These workshops provide valuable exposure to different areas within contemporary music production.
Evening Activities
Evening Activities take place from 6:30–8:00 p.m. and offer additional optional programming for production students. Sample activities can include open rehearsals, industry talks, open mics, and DJ nights. These sessions provide opportunities to connect with classmates, and serve as a relaxed, collaborative setting for students to continue exploring music and production outside of class time.
