In Their Own Words

"I believe a jazz foundation provides the student with the skills needed to understand and execute other genres. In my private instruction classes, the student develops a foundation on the drum set from the American Jazz traditions of 1945–1960, and the progression of the European Jazz style of 1969 onward."

"I believe all students should be able to write a lead sheet so that they develop their musicianship and arranging skills regardless of their instrument. In the R&B Ensemble, we focus on learning classic and contemporary R&B repertoire, knowing the role of the instruments, and providing the opportunity for students to write arrangements for the ensemble."

"I believe the live arrangement sound has become an integral part of today's live music scene and is therefore a profitable area that students should gain understanding. The Live Arrangement Ensemble focuses on contemporary arrangements of classic and modern Pop/R&B repertoire. Students are assigned in pairs or groups to write arrangements for the ensemble."
