Graduate Internship Program

If you are a graduate program student and you have secured an internship, you have the option to enroll in the graduate internship course. This course provides you with an opportunity to integrate your professional and academic experience through the internship.

Eligibility

All currently enrolled graduate students are eligible to enroll in the internship program for the fall semester following graduation. Students can intern in Spain, the US, and any country where they can already legally work.

GEMB students have the additional option to enroll in the internship program for the summer semester. Please note that GEMB summer internships must take place in Spain, remotely from Spain, or any country where the student can already legally work.

How to Enroll

You can find an internship on Berklee Career Manager, any job search site, or by arranging one directly between you and your employer. What matters most is that the internship is aligned with what you study and your chosen career path. In addition, the supervisor cannot be a direct relation or a current student.

Once you have secured an internship, you must submit your internship to the Berklee Career Manager for approval and registration.

In order to do so, go to the Berklee Career Manager, select “My Internship,” and “Add New Experience.” The internship course you will register for as a graduate student is “GS-595 Graduate Internship.”

GEMB students completing an internship during the summer semester will register for the course titled “GS-594” for the term “Summer 2025 (ICC).”

Once the internship has been approved, the ICC will prepare a learning agreement that the internship site, the student, and Berklee will sign. You will be notified once the learning agreement is ready and, once signed, you will be enrolled in the graduate internship course.

Before the Start of Your Internship

Attend the Internship Seminar

Attendance to the internship seminar is required of all students enrolled in the graduate internship program (whether it be for the fall or summer semesters.) This will take place in Valencia on May 19th, 2025, for GEMB summer semester interns and on June 27, 2025, for fall semester interns. If you have opted to extend the deadline for the fall semester and you do not need a visa for your internship, you must also attend the internship on June 27, even if you have not yet secured your internship.

Apply for Your Visa (If Applicable)

Students participating in a fall semester internship who need to apply for a visa in the US or Spain must complete the visa process prior to the start of their internship. For more detailed information on visa requirements, please refer to the sections below.

Pay the Internship Fee (If Applicable)

Students participating in a fall semester internship will make their payment of the $250 internship fee on my.berklee.edu. GEMB students enrolled in a summer internship are exempt from this registration fee as they will already pay tuition for the summer semester as a part of their degree program.

Sign Up for Health Insurance

Students are responsible for ensuring that they have proper health insurance for the duration of their internship. Fall student interns in Spain and the US are eligible to opt into the health insurance plan offered by Berklee.

Fall Semester Internships

Students enrolled in the fall internship program will walk at graduation in July but will not officially graduate until the internship course is complete. Internships in the US must begin in early September and may continue through the end of December. Internships outside the US can begin as early as the day after graduation, with some European countries preferring six-month placements running from July to December. All students are required to complete a minimum of 100 internship hours, though most full-time interns complete between 300 and 400 hours.

Reports

Fall semester interns are required to submit two reports during the duration of their internship. The first report is due on September 28, 2025, and the second report is due December 7, 2025, or by the last day of the internship (whichever comes first). Reports are to be submitted on the Berklee Career Manager.

Deadlines for Fall Semester Internships

The deadline to sign the learning agreement is Friday, June 20, 2025. The deadline can be extended until July 25 only if the student does not need a visa, and if they declare their intention to intern by June 20 through the intention form provided by the ICC. Students should aim to submit their internship on the Berklee Career Manager about a week before the deadline to allow enough time for the approval and agreement process.

Visas

Berklee can provide the documentation needed for you to apply for the appropriate visa in the US and Spain. For any other country, you must be able to obtain a student visa on your own. Keep in mind that Berklee’s ability to support a student visa is subject to the current travel restrictions and regulations of the destination country.

Internships in Spain: If the internship is in Spain, you will extend your student visa. Once your internship is approved, you should contact Student Affairs for guidance on what steps to take. You will need to request the extension of your visa before your current visa expires.

Internships in the US: If the internship is in the US, you will apply for a CPT (Curricular Practical Training) visa. The ICC will walk you through the process of obtaining it. You will need to begin the process to acquire the appropriate visa before graduation.

For all visas, your visa will expire by the end of the semester you are enrolled in.

GEMB Summer Semester Internships

Students enrolled in the GEMB graduate program have the option to intern during the summer semester. Students must start their internship during the first week of the summer semester and can intern through the end of August. Internships can end earlier, as long as the 100-hour minimum has been met by July 1. It is also possible for students to extend their internship into the fall and enroll in the fall internship program.

Reports

Summer semester interns will complete a weekly assignment via Canvas. Two of these weekly assignments will be a mid-term report and a final report. Please see the GS-594 syllabus for more information on assignments and grading policies.

Deadline for GEMB Summer Semester Internships

The deadline to sign the learning agreement is Tuesday, May 13, 2025. Students should aim to submit their internship on the Berklee Career Manager about a week before the deadline to allow enough time for the approval and agreement process.

Visas

Berklee cannot support visas for internships taking place during the summer semester. However, you can intern for a company located in another country remotely from Spain.
