Celebrating Excellence: Berklee Valencia’s Emmy-Nominated Alumni and Faculty for 2024
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recently revealed the nominees for the 76th annual Primetime Emmy Awards. This year, 21 Berklee alumni made the list. From Berklee Valencia, we proudly celebrate the recognition of Pablo Munguía and Anže Rozman MM ’14. Their nominations reflect the exceptional talent and dedication cultivated at Berklee.
Pablo Munguía: A Master in Live Sound Mixing
Pablo Munguía PDM '98, the director of Berklee Valencia’s music production, technology, and innovation program, has been nominated in the category of Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special for his work on the Oscars. Munguía’s experience in the field of sound mixing has been key to his extensive professional journey, which includes eight Emmy Awards and more than 20 nominations thanks to his contributions to high-profile shows such as the Academy Awards, the Grammy Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, the American Music Awards, and the iconic Super Bowl halftime shows.
Even after such an impressive career path, with so many recognitions and accolades to his name, Munguía continues to strive for the highest standards. Reflecting on this, he shared: “The nominations haven’t changed my approach, which has always been to aim for giving a perfect show, a perfect experience for the artist, or as close as we can. Sometimes we miss by a little, and usually I’m the only one who notices, but that just makes me work harder to eliminate any chances that anything goes wrong the next time.”
Munguía attributes much of his success to the skills and opportunities he gained from Berklee. “Berklee has been instrumental in any success I’ve enjoyed,” he states. “First, the Berklee network has opened all the doors. It was friends from Berklee who recommended me for my first gig, and it has been Berklee colleagues who continue to recommend me for the biggest gigs. Second, it was the Berklee preparation that allowed me to capitalize on opportunities when they presented themselves.”
His training and attitude toward new challenges has not only earned him multiple Emmy Awards and nominations, but has also made him an influential mentor to Berklee Valencia students, who benefit from his vast knowledge and experience.
Anže Rozman: Scoring Documentary Stories
Following his 2023 Emmy nomination for Prehistoric Planet, co-scored with Kara Talve and Hans Zimmer, Anže Rozman has been nominated again in 2024 for Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special, for his dramatic scoring work on the Netflix documentary “Beckham,” specifically for the episode titled “Seeing Red.”
Rozman, who graduated from Berklee Valencia’s scoring for film, television, and video games program in 2014, emphasized the importance of teamwork and communication on the project, saying he worked closely with director Fisher Stevens and editor Michael Harte. "Their vision for the story arc and music was incredibly clear, providing us with a great canvas to paint on,” he said. With only five weeks to score four episodes, “communication was key." He also praised cowriters and mentees Camilo Forero (a fellow Berklee alum), and Chris Brocato.
Upon receiving the Emmy nomination, Rozman expressed gratitude and joy for his work: “Being nominated is a great feeling. However, I try not to dwell too much on the Emmys and instead focus on being grateful that I can call being a composer my job.”
Rozman also extended his gratitude toward Berklee Valencia’s faculty, staff, and his 2014 classmates for their support, adding, “I would never be where I am now without Berklee and its amazing staff.”
