Director for Student Affairs, Diversity and Inclusion Clara Barberá is participating as a guest speaker in the Music Cities Convention at Lafayette, Louisiana, scheduled for 11-12 October 2018 in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Barberá is delivering a presentation on Music and Sustainable Development: “The United Nations has a set of 17 development goals that by 2030, will make the world fairer, wealthier and more welcoming.  Music, while prevalent across many of these goals, is not featured.  And we think this should change.  So we’ve teamed up with Berklee College of Music to look more at how music can support these sustainable development goals, and how by doing this our musicians and music professionals with benefit the most”, says the organizer about Barbera's presentation.

To date, Music Cities Convention has been held six times across Europe, Australia and North America bringing together 1200+ attendees from over 220 cities and 40 countries. Delegates from cities, governments, and the cultural industries have attended Music Cities Convention to explore the value of music in urban planning, quality of life, city policy and development strategies.

Sound Diplomacy are the co-founders and curators of Music Cities Events, a series of conventions and discussions currently consisting of Music Cities Convention, Music Tourism Convention, Music Cities Hackathon, and Sound Development. Each event explores how music influences urbanism and informs, impacts and influences policy, planning, community development, building codes, regeneration, tourism, branding, quality of life and international development.
