Berklee Valencia joined the second edition of the Fifty-Fifty Jazz and Poetry Festival, which was held in Avilés November 10–13, through a collaboration agreement that seeks to showcase the talent of Berklee Valencia’s alumni and professors.
On this occasion, the trio led by South Korean pianist and alumna SongAh Chae, accompanied by alumnus Samuel Keri and professor Joshua Wheatley, opened the festival with a concert featuring master saxophonist and faculty member Perico Sambeat as their guest artist.
Also present at the festival was alumnus Alexey León, M.M ‘14, who gave a concert alongside Antía Couto on November 12, titled El Tango: Borges / Piazzola.
As part of the program, SongAh Chae and Joshua Wheatley also offered a workshop on conceptual composition and interpretation at the Julián Orbón conservatory in Avilés.
The Fifty-Fifty Jazz and Poetry Festival was born with the aim of offering a platform to foster and facilitate connections between established and emerging artists, mainly in the fields of jazz and poetry. The event seeks to consolidate itself as the first festival of its kind in Spain, and to become an international benchmark with clear objectives of parity and participation—not only from an artistic perspective but also from a gender perspective.
The Fifty-Fifty Jazz and Poetry Festival has the support of the Avilés City Council, the Spanish Ministry of Culture, and Berklee Valencia as well as other institutions such as the Swiss Embassy and Radio 3.
