Berklee Valencia Brings Together More than 30 Music Industry Leaders for Hybrid Career Summit

Last week Berklee Valencia presented the sixth edition of their annual Berklee Global Career Summit, a four-day conference for students that included more than 30 music industry leaders from over 10 countries participating as speakers and mentors.

The hybrid event, which took place January 11–14 with the support of BBVA and the City of Arts and Sciences, included presentations, panels, mentorship opportunities, and information sessions focused on students’ professional development in business, film scoring, production, songwriting, and other areas.

Guest speakers included Andreas Katsambas, president at Chartmetrics; Ebonie Smith, award-winning music producer, audio engineer, and singer-songwriter; Patrice Rushen, a three-time Grammy-nominated singer, composer, and producer; Will Littlejohn, director of sound design at Meta; Ryan Shore, Grammy-nominated film composer, songwriter, music producer, music director, and conductor; Jonnas Weber, former director of Strategic Development at Universal and present co-CEO at COLORS X STUDIOS; and others.

The represented companies included Amazon Studios, Netflix, Atlantic Records, Beatport, and Sony Music, among many others.

In addition, the Berklee Valencia team organized a four-day workshop within the Summit where students and faculty worked together to shape and record the song “Wake Me in Spring.” The activity included a songwriting session with jazz singer and composer Viktorija Pilatovic and a production session led by Magda Giannikou, artist, producer, composer, and program director of the contemporary performance program, and faculty member Albert Palau. Grammy-winning recording and mixing engineer Nic Hard led the recording session for the song, which was mixed and mastered by faculty members Dani Castelar and Pablo Schuller and released on Monday, January 17 on Berklee Valencia’s YouTube channel.

The summit closed with the 14th edition of the Berklee Showcase, which was hosted at the Teatro Martín i Soler of Les Arts for Berklee community members and livestreamed on Berklee Valencia’s YouTube channel. The concert celebrated Berklee Valencia’s student talent and explored a world of styles, cultures, and ideas through music.
