Berklee Valencia and the Institut Valencià de Cultura Come Together to Offer the 2023 Symphonic Bands Workshops
Berklee Valencia and the Institut Valencià de Cultura have renewed their annual collaboration agreement for the integration of the musical societies of the Valencian Community within the Berklee courses in Valencia. The academic offerings for 2023 include two workshops: an arrangement and composition course and a conducting course. Both courses, intended exclusively for members of musical societies belonging to the Federación de Sociedades Musicales de la Comunidad Valenciana, are free of charge for participants.
Both courses, which will be held in person, will have two modalities: active and listener. For the first modality, there will be eight spots available per course, while for the latter, the spots will be available until maximum capacity is reached. At the time of registration, which can be processed through Berklee Valencia’s website, the preferred modality must be specified.
In the composition and arrangements course, active students will have the opportunity to work on an arrangement or piece that will be performed by the Societat Musical Eslava d'Albuixech, which will be conducted by active students in the conducting course. The faculty members include Berklee Valencia professors Enrique Hernandis, Daniel Flors, and Vicente Ortiz Gimeno; Francisco Zacarés, composer and professor at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música in Torrent; and Ximo Tarín, composer, director of Rafelbunyol’s Sociedad Musical La Primitiva, and deputy director of the Banda Municipal de Barcelona.
Conductor Pablo Marqués Mestre will lead the conducting course, in which students will participate in a series of rehearsal sessions where they will work with a rich repertoire, including pieces by Giuseppe Verdi, Ximo Tarín, Darius Milhaud, Vincent Persichetti, and John Barnes Chance. The rehearsal sessions and the closing concert, which will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, at the Auditorio Luis Monzonís, will be performed together with the Banda Simfònica de l’ESMAR.
